Volunteering

Your Volunteering Officers work closely with the rest of the JCRC/CSAC to develop a programme of volunteering opportunities which would be attractive specifically to your college. This could be done through a variety of channels; either through projects that each college committee sets up or through your local charity partner.

If you are looking to hold a volunteering event in your College, here are some top tips!

Work collaboratively with your RAG Officer; in some instances Colleges have a RAG & Volunteering officer because volunteering opportunities are organically developed through fundraising activities.

Work with your college’s charity partner and try and piggyback on any opportunities for volunteering that they may have available.

Keep it simple; do you need volunteers for Freshers’ Week, sports or a larger event? Look at opportunities closer to home and where volunteers may be required

Sell the benefits of volunteering; how it would look on CVs and for your future job prospects.

York SU Volunteering Projects

York SU Volunteering Projects are long-term, entirely student-led projects that run with support from the Activities Officer, Community and Wellbeing Officer and Fundraising and Volunteering Coordinator. We have over 20 volunteering projects currently that provide a diverse range of opportunities.

You can find out more about SU Volunteering here!

If your college committee is looking to run an initiative that aligns with one of York SU's Volunteering projects, get in touch!

YUSU Volunteering Committee

Alongside the Volunteering Officers that sit on your college committees, there is the York SU Volunteering Committee. They coordinate all of the volunteering opportunities that are delivered by York SU over the year; the chairs of this committee are the Volunteering Part Time Officers who are elected each year, and the rest of the committee are students who apply for the roles.

Your Volunteering Officers can liaise with the York SU Volunteering Committee throughout the year; it is through these communications that ideas and best practice will be shared, and opportunities for collaboration come to fruition.
